More experimentation.

This picture is so glossy it's kind of a challenge to get a decent shot of it. Anyway, it's encaustic wax layered with glossy clear acrylic. A big no-no apparently. But so what. I tried this same technique with another painting & the acrylic peeled off like a giant sticker. So far this Frankenstein of medium is adhering.

In general I'm not feeling the encaustic. It's a lot of work for a blurry uncontrollable shmear of color. Evidently I have not mastered the art of the encaustic.

This painting is titled "Test, test" & is 12"x16".

Today I'm working on fixing the bastard, unfinished & ugly paintings that I have laying about before buying more wood panels.

"It is in your self interest to find a way to be very tender"... My Jenny Holzer inspired tapestry for my brother. All this petit point takes forever. 4 months = 1/3rd complete.

Recently completed

Everything is completed until it's no longer completed. Which is basically the more I stare at it the less completed a painting becomes. Did Ingres feel this way about Odalisque? Her body is so oddly long after all, surely he noticed this himself.

The blue is a commission yet to be named 36x48
The orange is "grey fire morning" 24x24
The white + copper is "Soledad" 48x48

A whole new way...

Trying out a new toy to show off a newish technique. No more polymer finish, now it's a glossy acrylic. Less fume-y, more indoors friendly. This painting therefor is named "a whole new way" 24"x24"

You can't teach a dog to chew with his mouth closed

I suppose this wasn't technically created in my studio... apartment. I woke up one morning chez Aaron with some lines in my head. I wrote them down, he improved upon them, I improved upon his improvements, he improved upon the improved... to the 4th or 5th power. We invited my mom to illustrate the story because she can draw like nobody else. And voila!

Solo Exhibit at Blue Danube Cafe
